I didn't dare to make another wish

We followed the road until it's very end and left the car with as many layers of merino wool and fleece one can possibly wear under a down jacket. We walked down to the small lake, where not a single sign of artificial light or civilisation could be seen. The lake was frozen to the ground and we started crossing it on the partially slippery, partially snowy, ice. We noticed a strange noise and couldn't decide if it was the silence we heard or an animal moving around on the shore. It was cloudy. Unfortunately. However, a few stars twinkled towards us together with the foggy moon and we slowly made our way to the middle of the small, frozen lake. It was quiet, peaceful and spooky. The first hour of waiting was okay. We noticed more and more stars above us and a tiny streak of light above the treetops, we drank hot tea with sugar and continued waiting. It became terribly cold. It is almost impossible staying warm while not doing anything, no matter how many layers one is wearing. The tiny streak of light slowly grew stronger and wider and the moon started descending behind the highest mountain around. It first became darker, when the moonlight was gone. Dark, cold and slightly hopeless.

Then it started. The Nordic light, aurora borealis. Like a crazy light show, worse (and better) than anything I have ever seen before. It was unreal. And beautiful. More and more stars appeared above us as the clouds disappeared and we tried to find as many constellations as we could remember. I noticed a shooting star and remembered to make a wish. As if this wasn't enough... The aurora continued and we moved closer to the trees by the shore and it was absolutely amazing watching the silhouette of the treetops in front of the light. A cold night, where dreams came true and patience was rewarded. I noticed one more shooting star. But I didn't dare to make another wish.
