The Canyon: On the edge of eternity

Fish River Canyon is Africa's largest and situated in the southern part of Namibia. It is 160 kilometres long and depending on when you are visiting, more or less dry. However, there is some water floating and during the dryer times of the year the water forms rock pools, where you can have a swim.

It is an area that has been inhabited since long time and there are still visible signs on the trees, where people historically has carved in directions to where which family lives. Despite the beauty, the heat and the constantly shining sun make the environment quite difficult and unfriendly. Until you find a small yellow flower that has managed to bloom in the middle of the rocky desert.

We went out in the canyon, by car and by foot. And when we finally reached the river, we had a swim upstreams to a waterfall and I honestly don't know if I had survived without that chilly water.

The canyon in Namibias desert isn't a place where you easily go. By car it takes hours on rocky and bad roads, by plane you get to see the beautiful canyon from above. The lodge is built on the edge of the ravine and we watched the sun rising and setting in the desert, knowing that this place was absolutely right about there own slogan. On the edge of eternity.

It felt eternal in so many ways. The views were miles wide and since nothing else happened than the nature itself, it was also a very hidden and eternal-like place from the rest of the finite world. And a place very difficult to leave.
