May you live in interesting times

The very ancient Chinese curse May you live in interesting times is expressed as a blessing, as if this is something lovely to wish for. The background of the curse is debated, since some people say there is absolutely nothing Chinese nor ancient about it, it just gives a heavier impression that way. No matter its origin, it means that even though it sounds like interesting times will be about positive development and growth, times of tranquility and calmness are yet more life enhancing, why the blessing becomes a curse.

I think we are quite many people who confess ourselves to active lives with a lot going on at work and in our personal spheres. However, anyone who has experienced a time when life never calms down and the events building up one after each other, knows the feeling of being imprisoned in ones own calendar, incapable to stop the hectic spiral. We want interesting lives. And eventful. But we don't want the never ending feeling of not being able to breathe. May you live in interesting times. It is a curse. A May-like curse. Remember where you heard it first and never say you didn't know.  It is early May, though. We still have time to not make it too interesting.
